eavesdropping in Barcelona

Overheard in Barcelona at the CDLC: "I love life" and "Meeting people is my thing". Clearly a very deep guy, Byron Kelleher.

Let's Partyflette!

Tartiflette is a wintery meal that is simple to make, even Matthieu and I made it without fucking it up too much. You layer potatoes, onions, lardon (bacon bites), cream and cheese in a casserole dish and put it in the oven et puis, voilà. It is the french version of a heart attack on a plate but it's the perfect thing to eat when it's cold outside and you've been skiing...or not.

I came across this sign the other day outside of a Pizza Hut in Clermont. For those of you who have started gently sobbing while thinking "WHY DOES PIZZA HUT EXIST IN FRANCE? France is the capital of gastronomie, non?" I have no answer for you. There's also Macdonald's, KFC, Subway and Dominoes.

So recap, tartiflette= yummy.

But...a tartiflette pizza sound incredibly disgusting!!!! It's like a foie gras nachos or burrito fondu or, or, or escargot mac n' cheese.

But in all honesty, the most disturbing thing about "partyflette" is that I might eat it if I was drunk.

Here's the striking view of the cathedral from my kitchen window...jealous? Every single time I look outside my window I have to pinch myself (cliché, i know). I worked really hard last year to graduate on time and to get a job in France, and now I'm finally here.
Clermont reminds me of the town in (get ready for a high brow cultural reference) Beauty in the Beast. Emphasis on the "little town, just a quite village.... this poor provincial town". The only real difference is that I don't skip out of a quirky cottage every morning...and we need to substitute the balding librarian with a retired high school english teacher who leaves me copies of time magazine in my mailbox.
